Career Services

Overview:
The Career Services Department at Career Point College offers comprehensive career guidance, tools and resources to bridge the gap between academic progression and professional development. It’s more than a resource for job placement and counseling. Because we understand that everyone is unique, exceptional and individually geared for different barometers of success, Career Services is a dynamic and interactive learning center. Our team of Career Advisors are here to assist students one-on-one, in one or all of the following areas:

Presentation Development:
Cover Letters / Letters of Interest: Outlines procedures, formatting; includes examples of each.
CV and Resume Writing: Covers the fundamentals of how to write a resume, including samples of different templates, organization options and suggestions for effectiveness.
Thank You / Acceptance Letters: Outlines procedures, formatting; includes examples of each.
Your Guide to the Successful Interview: preparation exercises, what wear, what to expect, during the interview, typical questions employers ask, questions you will want to ask, closing the interview, post-interview follow up, second round and/or site interviews, and more.
Behavioral Interview: An overview of different styles, how to prepare and sample questions.

Broadening Professional Communication Skills:
The Art of Networking for Career Exploration: Posting your resume online is appropriate when you’re job-searching, but it is a very passive act. Networking has become one of the most important ways of opening up lines of communication that are more than a one-way exchange.  We can show you how to make the most of this interactive venue, and how to apply networking in a variety of professional situations.
Professional Speaking: An essential and wide array of skills to encompass. Fact: Employers rate communication as the most valuable skill, second only to work ethic and teamwork. We show you how to develop and excel in all three areas.
Professional Presentations: You truly have one chance to make that lasting impression. Let us help you realize how best to present a professional demeanor.
The Negotiation Process: We will help you understand how to best conduct this precarious process, and discuss the many repercussions of this often overlooked aspect of the hiring process.

Progress of Measurement:
The College measures progress based on quarter credits.  An academic year is at least thirty (30) weeks of training and at least thirty-six (36) quarter credits.  The Mid-point of an academic year is eighteen (18) quarter credits.

Career Point College offers a $1000 scholarship (known as the Lora Garza Scholarship) to each student who scores a 410 average or above on the Wonderlic Test of Verbal and Mathematical Skills. The scholarship is credited directly to the student’s account and no application is necessary.
